Springs fire 60 percent contained

Firefighters have a line three-fifths of the way around the 1,193-acre Springs fire burning near Buckeye Canyon.

Heavy rains falling in the Pine Nut Mountains on Monday night helped firefighters contain the blaze, according to

Sierra Front Interagency Dispatcher Helen Frazier.

Lighting started the fire and five others on Sunday afternoon. There are scattered structures in the area, but none were seriously threatened by the blaze.

Firefighters expect to have the fire contained today as they continue handline construction and mom-up operations.

There are 215 firefighters working the fire, including six hand crews, three helicopters and seven engines.

The Divide fire located south near the Douglas County Dump is still being extinguished by a hand crew and a fire engine.
