Small fire doused near Topaz Ranch Estates

This week's thunderstorms left a few fires in their wake, but also dropped a significant amount of rain in spots around Carson Valley.
Three-fifths of an inch of rain fell in Minden on Tuesday and Wednesday bringing the total for the year up to 6.17 inches, R-C weather watcher Stan Kapler reported.
Brief, but heavy rain showers also fell in Gardnerville and points south. Power was out around town for about three minutes, and residents experienced several power bumps.
A lightning strike set a half acre fire just west of Grandview Drive and East Valley Road at about 1:45 p.m. Wednesday. Lightning from the same storm struck a power pole in the Gardnerville Ranchos.
East Fork firefighters extinguished the blaze in about an hour.
Wednesday's lightning storm set several small fires in the mountains around Carson Valley, including five at Lake Tahoe.

According to the U.S. Forest Service, fires were burning in Christmas Valley, Echo Summit, Blackwood Canyon and Heavenly Valley.
Wednesday's weather was a repeat of Tuesday's, only with more moisture.
East Fork firefighters responded to a half-acre fire off Kyle Drive south of Topaz Ranch Estates on Tuesday afternoon.
The fire was started by a lightning strike that was reported by more than a dozen callers at 4:15 p.m.
The same storm that set the fire helped to put it out with heavy rain. The rest of the work was done by firefighters in a brush truck.
Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center reported another lightning strike and tree on fire 4:32 p.m. Tuesday southeast of Red Lake along Blue Lakes Road in Alpine County.
Nickel-sized hail fell near Ski Run in South Lake Tahoe 3:55 p.m., along with .88 inches of rain.
