Sherlock Holmes opens to packed house

Staff Reports

Kelsey Endter/Special to The R-CShawn Bridges, Jimmy Rich and Keaton Peters rehearse a scene.

Director and writer Kelsey Endter couldn’t have been prouder of opening weekend of “Sherlock Holmes: A Simple Act of War.”

And she’s hoping for another full house this weekend.

“Opening weekend was really nice. There was a full house on Friday and Saturday,” Kelsey said. “It was one of the best opening shows the drama department’s ever had.”

The play takes place in London in the midst of the Blitz, the bombing of England by Germany during World War II. When a member of parliament is killed, only Sherlock Holmes can uncover the secrets of his past, and the plan of a criminal mastermind who has the fate of the world in his hands.

Having always been interested in history, Kelsey spent three months researching the background for the play.

“I was always interested in how world wars come to be,” she said. “My great-grandpa was in Nazi Germany, and lived through World War II. The personal anecdotes are what inspired me to write this.”

Proceeds from the show will help send 24 drama students to the State Thespian Festival on March 14-17 in Las Vegas.

“I’d love to have more people come out and see an historical fiction play,” Kelsey said. “It’s my pride and joy. It’s like my child.”
