Runaways caught near school

Douglas County deputies rounded up five juveniles Saturday near Minden Elementary School who reportedly ran away from Rite of Passage and stole a vehicle.

Sgt. Lewis Brooks said the Alpine County Sheriff’s Department reported chasing a possible stolen vehicle into Douglas County at 6:05 a.m.

Douglas deputies responded to assist and lost sight of the vehicle in Minden.

Shortly after, a woman called the sheriff’s office to report a suspicious vehicle behind Minden Elementary.

She told deputies she heard the vehicle come to a sliding stop and saw people running away.

Deputies saw three males and two females in the fields adjacent to the school, and took them into custody.

During the investigation it was determined the vehicle had been stolen and the juveniles had run away from Rite of Passage.
