The Douglas County Sheriff's Office, in conjunction with the Douglas County Partnership of Community Resources, is conducting a Prescription Drug Roundup on Saturday

The event is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at five locations throughout Douglas County.

The purpose of the event is to get unused or unwanted prescription medications out of home medicine cabinets where they can be stolen and abused.

"Proper disposal of medications protects, teens, children, pets and the environment," officials said.

In addition to people pills, the event is also accepting over-the-counter and pet medications.

Organizers ask that participants leave the pills in the original containers and mark out the names appearing on the bottle.
