Mother in custody on endangerment

A search for the mother of a toddler found wandering the Gardnerville Ranchos on Thursday resulted in the woman’s arrest after she denied the child was her’s.

Katherine Mary Hetzel, 20, appeared in East Fork Justice Court on Friday morning on charges of child endangerment and obstruction.

According to court documents, Hetzel was asked by a neighbor and later by a deputy if the 2-year-old child, who was found in a diaper on Wagon Wheel, was her’s.

It wasn’t until Hetzel’s fiancé contacted deputies going door-to-door looking for the mother, that they obtained a description and her name.

The toddler is being cared for by Child Protective Services.

■ A Gardnerville teenager who was just last month congratulated on completing a regimental discipline program is in custody for drinking and obstructing charges.

Nathan Centeno, 19, was arrested Tuesday for drinking alcohol and giving a deputy the wrong name.

He is on a parole and probation hold while he awaits an appearance in Douglas County District Court.
