Many thanks from the Antelope Valley Lions Club
October 8, 2013
The Antelope Valley Lions Club thanks all those who supported their annual Deerhunters Barbecue last Saturday.
Everyone who came to have the delicious dinner as well as those who supported their many raffles are really appreciated, as the proceeds contribute to the Lions Club’s service and support to our community.
Special congratulations go to Tom Garcia and Mary Dayhoff, the winners of the two giant raffles for the beautiful hunting rifle and the $1,000 Visa gift card.
If you missed this fun and tasty event, be sure to plan on attending next year’s.

The boys’ football team has really been on a roll.
They had last Saturday off, but the week before, they defeated Smith Valley by a score of 66-6. Not bad.
They will have home games for the next three Saturdays, so come on out and root them home winners again.
The girls’ volleyball team is doing well also, with a league record of 3-1 as I write this.
They have three games this week, so we’ll be hoping they continue their success.
This and that
The next bingo will be at the Senior Center in Walker after one of their great lunches on Oct. 18.
This is always fun, with a lot of friendly competition and chuckles.
Just a reminder – VFW Post 3630 is still holding their pancake breakfasts on the fourth Saturday of every month at the Park Building in TRE.
The cost is $3 for kids and $5 for adults, which gets you a complete meal of eggs, pancakes, sausage, bacon, juice and coffee.
I have heard nothing but good reports on it, so give it a try.
Last week I received an e-mail from a reporter in Mammoth Lakes, saying that they were planning a “sit-down” protest of the closure of our federal parks last Friday at Tuolumne Meadows.
Their feeling is that our area is dependent on the parks for income and tourism, and that the government should not shut them down, since they are public land. I haven’t heard any results from this, but it did sound interesting.
