Man jailed in sexual seduction case
December 19, 2013
A 29-year-old Gardnerville Ranchos man was jailed on $20,000 bail accused of having sex with a 14-year-old girl.
Gabriel Adam Miles is charged with two counts of statutory sexual seduction and one count of attempted statutory sexual seduction.
The crime is a category C felony because the suspect is over the age of 21 and the victim is under the age of 16. The penalty is 1-5 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
Miles appeared Wednesday before East Fork Judge Tom Perkins who refused to release Miles on his own recognizance or lower his bail.
Miles said he would be able to hire his own lawyer.
Perkins set his next court appearance for Dec. 26.
The incidents are alleged to have occurred Oct. 12 through Nov. 26 at a residence in the Gardnerville Ranchos.
Perkins said if Miles bails out, he is to have no contact with the alleged victim and is under the supervision of the Department of Alternative Sentencing.
The alleged victim's father and brother were arrested on Nov. 26 after they reportedly threatened Miles, kicked in the front door and broke a window at his residence after learning of the crime.
On Wednesday, Perkins sentenced the father to a suspended 90 days in Douglas County Jail. He pleaded guilty to destruction of property.
Perkins forbid him from having contact with Miles, but said he could attend court proceedings involving the suspect.
"You got yourself in trouble because you took the law into your own hands," Perkins said. "Stay out of trouble."
