Women Inspiring Service and Education is hosting an evening of magic Oct. 5 to raise funds for a nonprofit group that offers free services to grieving children, teens and adults.

Tickets are $35 per person for "A Magical Evening" at Carson Valley Inn, and includes a prime rib dinner and an evening of magic featuring Dan Kimm of Hypnotic.

Brooke Roberts, WISE community outreach chairman, said proceeds will go to the Douglas Center for Hope and Healing.

"Our group picks a charity to support for two years, and we raise money by having fundraisers," Roberts said.

Douglas Center for Hope and Healing is close to her heart, she said, because it was founded by her sister, Jodi Wass.

The center offers peer support groups to children, teens, adults and families coping with the loss of loved ones in Douglas County, Carson City, Lake Tahoe and surrounding areas.

"We get nominations from our members, and when it was narrowed down, DCHH really struck a chord," Roberts said. "We all know somebody who has gone through the loss of a loved one. Jodi came to our meeting and made a presentation. It touched our hearts very deeply. Jodi is my sister and I was pretty darned excited when we made the decision," Roberts said.

Doors open at CVI at 5 p.m. Prior to the headliner, magician Thomas Wiese will be performing tableside magic.

The evening also includes raffle prizes, a 50-50 lottery and dessert auction.

Roberts said WISE is accepting donations for raffle and auction items through Sept. 30.

She can be reached via email at serendipityorganic@gmail.com., or (775) 790-3797.

Tickets may be purchased online at http://www.nvwise.org; Body Language Day Spa, 1478 Fourth St., Suite B, Minden; and the Douglas Center for Hope and Healing, 1677 Lucerne St., Suite B, Minden.

They will be available at the door the evening of the event for $40.

Roberts described the event as a "PG-13" kind of event.

"We're gearing it toward a 'date night,' but teenagers might get a kick out of it," she said.
