Lauer to run for secretary of state

R-C Capitol Bureau

Las Vegas businessman Rob Lauer has announced plans to drop his congressional campaign and run for Nevada secretary of state.

Lauer is the first candidate to announce he will challenge Democratic incumbent Ross Miller.

Lauer originally announced a run for the Nevada Congressional seat held by Democrat Dina Titus. He changed his mind after former State Sen. Joe Heck, also a Republican, announced he will run in District 3.

“I decided I was not going to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars battling Joe Heck and forcing him to spend his money fighting me when we have a real chance to change the direction of the country,” Lauer said.

He said he believes the GOP can take control of the House in this year’s elections and was worried their primary battle could cost the party that seat.

He said the state needs a businessman in the Secretary of State’s office “to lead this office and address the needs of real people.”
