As it stands today, Nevada ranks 41st in the nation for obese children. Approximately 34 percent of children in the state, ages 10-17, are obese, according to Carson Valley Middle School physical education teacher Janae Ballingham.
To help address the issue, Carson Valley Middle School, in conjunction with Gardnerville Elementary School, is hosting the second annual Health and Fitness Fair 5:30-7:30 p.m. April 11 at the middle school. The event is free and open to the public.
“Bring your whole family, wear comfortable shoes, and come prepared to learn and play,” said Ballingham. “You just might win one of many amazing raffle prizes along the way. Thanks in advance for the more than 25 community businesses that are helping to make this event another grand slam.”
Ballingham said physical activity can positively affect many things: blood flow and oxygen to the brain, the development of new brain cells, promotion of mental health, building of strong muscles and bones, and reducing anxiety and depression,.
“Come see what your community has to offer and have some fun along way,” she said.
