Jan. 27 Knights of Columbus bingo benefits Reel Recovery
January 20, 2012
Knights of Columbus bingo at 7 p.m., Jan. 27 is dedicated to the Northern Nevada Chapter of Reel Recovery, a non-profit organization that provides free fly-fishing retreats for men with cancer.
Reel Recovery was founded in 2003 by a group of avid fly-fishers, inspired by their fishing buddy’s ongoing battle with brain cancer. Witnessing first-hand the beneficial impact fly-fishing provided their friend, they created Reel Recovery to provide the same opportunity for other men battling the disease. Combining expert fly-fishing instruction with directed “courageous conversations,” the organization provides men with all forms of cancer a unique opportunity to share their stories, learn a new skill, form lasting friendships, and gain renewed hope as they confront the challenges of cancer. The knights donation will help fund two retreats this summer in Markleeville, Calif.
The Knights of Columbus hosts bingo nights on the second and fourth Fridays of each month at the Saint Gall Pastoral Center located at 1343 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville. These events which are open to everyone over the age of 21, provide funds to support various community projects and other public needs. Doors open at 6 p.m. and play starts at 7 p.m. Players purchase $21 game packs that include a 3-card warm-up, 10 game cards, one raffle ticket, and one progressive blackout game card. Additional blackout game card can be purchased separately. Regular game jackpots are $100 and warm-up games jackpots are $50. The Big Bucks Bonus Blackout pays $1,199. Players can also win big on the Progressive Blackout and Hot Ball. Food and drinks will be available for purchase at 6 p.m. Knights volunteers will also provide free popcorn, coffee, and table snacks during the evening.
