Illegal fireworks set Minnehaha Canyon fire

Staff Reports

A fire bomber drops a load on the Minnehaha Canyon fire in Topaz Ranch Estates on Sunday.

Investigators are blaming illegal fireworks for a 250-acre wildfire burning above Topaz Ranch Estates.

The Minnehaha Canyon fire started on private land on the night of July 4th. It was first reported 6 a.m. Saturday.

"Please remind everyone that fireworks are illegal in the Fire District and this fire represents the dry conditions we are facing this summer," said East Fork Fire District Deputy Chief Dave Fogerson.

Fogerson said he expects to have the fire contained by noon today, with most units going back to base.

East Fork exited the unified command with the Bureau of Land Management, but left a firefighter-paramedic to deal with any medical issues at the scene.

Three firefighters suffered from heat-related injuries while fighting the fire.
