Icy Highway 395 prompts Carson Valley accidents
February 28, 2012
Three spin-out accidents on Highway 395 between Genoa and Johnson lanes were a testament to how slick the highway was this morning.
The Nevada Highway Patrol responded to three non-injury accidents between 7:42 and 8:57 a.m.
More than 2 inches of snow fell in Minden on Monday night which combined with freezing temperatures to make the roads slick.
More snow fell in the foothills, with Sheridan Acres reporting 4 inches of snow and Heavenly Ski Resort receiving 17 inches.
Residents awoke to a few fog banks this morning, which left a coating of ice on trees and fences.
Temperatures are expected to warm up above freezing as a new front heads into Northern Nevada.
The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory from 10 p.m. through 4 p.m. Wednesday, with up to 70 mph gusts in the foothills and wind-prone areas along Highway 395.
The rest of the Valley may experience 20-35 mph, gusting to 55 mph.
A chance of snow begins after 10 p.m. tonight and continuing through Wednesday.
