High Point curve road work still causing delays
July 30, 2013
The most current CalTrans report said that work on the High Point curve correction at Topaz Lake will have hours of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. this week with up to 10 minute delays. It doesn't say that the project will be completed by Friday, so their last estimate of completion in July has fallen through. This doesn't surprise all of us who have been given many "project ending" dates that didn't happen, so we'll just have to wait and see.
Student summer ending
Coleville schools will start the new school year on Aug. 20, so I hope all of our students in the valley have had a really good summer vacation and will be ready to get back to work.
In the last weeks we have had a variety of kinds of weather, with the blistering heat, thunderstorms, and nice in-between weather. I can't really complain about the wet weather we had in the last week, since we needed the moisture. I hope everyone is taking advantage of the chance to enjoy the many summer activities we have available in our area.
Memorial for a local

This Saturday, 11 a.m. at the Methodist church in Coleville, there will be a memorial service for long-time local resident, Ed Walton, who passed away July 10 at his residence in Carson City. I did not know Mr. Walton, but from all I've heard, he is going to be missed by a lot of people in our area. Our sympathy goes to his family and friends for their loss.
This and that
The How Big Is Big fishing derby ends today, but it sounds like it was a big success again. At last report, the winner looked likely to be a 6 pound, 4 ounce trout. That is a really nice one!
The Walker Country Store's deli is starting to serve weekly specials on sub sandwiches on Fridays, and last week's $5.99 tri tip subs were delicious and very-well received. They will have tri tip subs again this Friday from noon until 7 p.m. Give them a try and enjoy.
