Genoa Americana Festival is July 4

Celebrate Independence Day while listening to live bluegrass, Americana and old-time music at the annual Genoa Americana Festival 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 4.

The children's parade will begin at 10 a.m., with water games in the stockade throughout the day.

Other activities include face painting, watermelon seed spitting, raffles and bluegrass and old-time music jamming.

Among the performers will be Beans Sousa and songwriting partner Slade Rivers and his Band at 3:15 p.m.

Slade Rivers from Amador County and Beans Sousa, a Carson City resident and former veteran of the Lacy J. Dalton Band, recently released an album of all original songs on the Shop Records label.

The chicken dinner served by the Genoa Volunteer Fire Department will start at 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. or they sell out.

The meal includes a half barbecue chicken, cole slaw, baked potato and dinner roll for $12. Beverages are sold separately. Tickets are available from the GVFD, or at the Chicken BBQ tent.

The Carson City Symphony & Chorus will perform at 4:30 p.m.
