Gardnerville family uninjured in fatal accident

A Gardnerville resident and her two young children were uninjured in an accident on State Route 341 Saturday afternoon when the vehicle she was driving collided with a motorcycle.
At approximately 1:58 p.m., Nevada Highway Patrol troopers responded to an injury crash involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle on Geiger Grade Highway, above the lookout approximately 5 miles south of the junction with Highway 395.
Preliminary investigation revealed a motorcycle (sport bike) traveling northbound on SR 341 towards Reno passed a silver Subaru Outback, driven by 28-year-old Gardnerville resident Jaimie Givens, traveling in the same direction.
The motorcycle passed the Subaru while in a no passing zone, and struck the left side of the Subaru.
Carson City resident Kyle Banko, 24, was ejected from his motorcycle and transported to Renown Medical Center by Care Flight where he died as a result of his injuries.
The highway was closed for approximately 30 minutes while the rider was being treated at the scene, and for Care Flight to land.

Traffic was routed around the accident in the southbound travel lane while the accident was investigated.
The highway was completely opened at 6:26 p.m.
This crash is being investigated by the Nevada Highway Patrol’s Major Accident Investigation Team.
