Free driving class for teens in Carson City
June 13, 2012
Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Dan Gordon is offering a free safe driving course for young drivers 1-4 p.m. June 23 in the Ormsby Room at the Carson City Sheriff’s Office on Musser Street.
The program – called Driving Responsibly Includes Vehicle Education – is designed for drivers age 15 to their early 20s. Parents also are invited.
“This is the season where teen-involved crashes skyrocket,” Gordon said. “Inexperienced drivers think with the warmer weather, these are ideal driving conditions, and tend to drive faster.”
Through the class, Gordon focuses on driving distractions emphasizing Nevada’s cell phone law which bans use of cell phones other and other hand-held wireless devices unless hands-free. Sending or receiving text messages also is illegal.
Gordon said he tries to make the class fun and interactive.
The theme of the class is that driving is a responsibility, Gordon said.
He asked that participants make reservations so he knows how many people will attend.
