Five-year-old Fernley girl killed by car

A 5-year-old Fernley girl was killed while riding a tricycle on a sidewalk Thursday afternoon after she was backed over by a vehicle pulling out of a driveway.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, Alysia Simper was riding with her grandmother and another girl on a scooter who fell down or stopped around 4 p.m. on E Street in Fernley.

While her grandmother was helping the other girl, Alysia continued down the side walk and into a driveway where she was struck by a 1996 Mercedes driven by Patricia A. Anderson, 53, who was backing down her driveway.

Alysia was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Anderson showed signs of intoxication and was taken into custody by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, accused of felony driving under the influence of alcohol causing a death.

Anderson was taken to the Lyon County Detention Facility in Yerington and booked.
