Fire weather watch in forecast
October 23, 2014
A fire weather watch on Wednesday, which could turn into the fourth red flag warning in 10 days, was issued by the National Weather Service on Monday.
Low humidity and gusty winds are expected to create critical fire weather conditions in Western and Central Nevada.
Winds out of the west 15-25 mph, gusting to 40 mph, and humidity 8-10 percent are expected.
Dry weather has predominated during June, but there’s a chance that will break as thunderstorms enter the forecast this week.
While dry conditions favor haying, the ongoing drought will see water for irrigation dry up as snow in the mountains melts off.
The first cutting of hay across the Valley is wrapping up during the last weeks of June and the first weeks of July.
Without water to flood the fields, a second cutting will be a difficult prospect on some properties.
