Deputies step up DUI enforcement this weekend

Staff Reports

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a high visibility traffic enforcement detail this weekend.

Late tonight and early Saturday, deputies in conjunction with law enforcement officers from Lyon County and Carson City, are conducting increased driving under the influence enforcement patrols within Douglas County.

Sheriff Ron Pierini said national traffic studies have shown that such patrols “provide an increased risk of detection and apprehension,” reducing the number of motorists willing to risk driving while impaired.

The enforcement detail is partially paid for by a grant from the State of Nevada, Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety.-

“The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is committed to keeping the roads and highways of our community safe,” Pierini said. “As part of that effort, we will be conducting additional traffic enforcement details when resources allow, particularly targeting distracted or intoxicated drivers.”

He said the extra enforcement should serve as a reminder to motorists to drive responsibly over the upcoming Nevada Day/pre-Halloween weekend.
