Douglas County Sheriff's OfficeSamples of railroad torpedoes taken Jan. 31 in a residential burglary at Topaz Ranch Estates.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Jan. 31 Topaz Ranch Estates burglary in which thieves removed firearms, ammunition, gun powder, reloading supplies and railroad torpedoes.

According to reports, the residence in the 3800 block of Walker View Drive showed signs of forced entry. The interior was ransacked.

Sgt. Pat Brooks described railroad torpedoes as small explosive devices that are attached to the rail with a metal strap. They produce a small explosion when triggered.

“These items are or could be dangerous, and should not be handled. If located please contact the sheriff’s office,” Brooks said.

Anyone with any information about the burglary is asked to call Investigator Brian Hubkey at 782-9926 or Investigations at 782-9905.
