Dayton man killed in Mono motorcycle accident

A Dayton man was killed Sunday morning after colliding with a vehicle that allegedly pulled out in front of him near Mono Lake on Highway 395.

James H. McGifford, 59, was northbound on the highway near Picnic Grounds Road on a 1998 Harley Davison at about 11:10 a.m. when a 2009 Audi attempted to make a left hand turn into his path.

The driver of the Audi, Shirley Liang, 32, of Cupertino, Calif., was uninjured.

Her passenger received scrapes to his right arm.

According to the California Highway Patrol, McGifford was taken to Mammoth Lakes Hospital for treatment. He succumbed to his injuries while in the ambulance.

The collision remains under investigation, according to the CHP.
