Dangberg Ranch survives top 10 cut

The Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park made it into round three of the Discover Your Nevada contest.

The top five in the Reno-Tahoe Territory will be revealed 9 a.m. April 16. Residents can vote once a day for their favorite attraction.

“It’s great that we have so many supporters here locally and other parts of the state who recognize what a treasure the home ranch is,” Curator Mark Jensen said. “If you don’t count Lake Tahoe, the park is the only one in Douglas County, so we want all the local community to go to the webpage and vote for the park.”

As of Tuesday, the trending favorites in the top five slots were Artown, Thunderbird Lake Tahoe, Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park, Lake Tahoe and Virginia City.

If the park makes it into the next round, Plant It Nursery in Gardnerville will donate money for spring flowers for Gertrudes Garden.

Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki said at a press conference March 1 that the campaign was designed to help the third of Nevadans who are employed in the tourism industry.

Beginning this month and continuing into May, Krolicki and Gov. Brian Sandoval will take a series of road trips throughout the state visiting some of Nevada’s treasures.

“We’re very excited about the possibility of the governor coming to visit considering until last summer the park was a state park closed due to budget cuts,” Jensen said. “We want the to governor to help keep the park alive.”

The Dangberg Home Ranch Historic park offers tours by reservation only Wednesday through Sunday. The park is also planning a melodrama production July 28 and 29.
