Cowboy Festival rides into Genoa

With the tents up and the hay bales stacked, Genoa is ready for the fifth annual Cowboy Festival to begin this morning.

The festival officially starts 10 a.m. today with cowboy performers Ken Gardner, Sallie Joseph and Jon and Betsy Elliot performing on the main stage in Mormon Station State Historic Park. Events will also take place in the Genoa Town Hall, the Masonic Hall and the Trimmer Outpost Barn.

Genoa's Main Street will close at 8 a.m. today between Nixon and Fifth streets.

Sales of day passes have been picking up over the last few weeks.

Day passes for town events are $15 per day and $10 for children. A three-day pass is $30 for adults and $15 for children 12 and younger. Concerts at the main stage require separate tickets.

The Historic Ranch Tour is sold out for the second year in a row, guide Mike Fischer said on Wednesday.

"It is nice when communities work together," he said.

The Native American Cultural and Historic Center will feature basketmaking, story telling and demonstrations of the Washoe language.

Events around town on Friday include birding at the River Fork Ranch, the history of Ranch No. 1 and a fast draw demonstration.

Friday night's concert features Paul Zarzyski, Dave Stamey and the Hot Club of Cowtown. Saturday night's concert features Zarzyski, Mary Kaye and Ronstadt Generations.

On Saturday the town will be packed with events at all four venues through the day, with Paul Zarzyski returning to the main concert stage, along with Mary Kaye and Ronstadt Generations.

Festival events include blacksmithing, dutch oven cooking, entertainment, and cowboy demonstrations.

The event will wrap up on Sunday.

Cowboy Church is Sunday morning, with events through noon as the festival wraps up. Genoa's Sweet Sippin' Sundays starts at 1 p.m.
