County search and rescue looking for new members

Staff Reports

Douglas County Search and Rescue is looking for energetic men and women to join its team. DCSAR is an all-volunteer unit within the Douglas County Sheriff's Office that responds to lost and injured people in the back country as well as disasters and other public safety emergencies or events that are the responsibility of the sheriff.

Last year, DCSAR responded to over 50 missions in Douglas County and surrounding counties and saved numerous lives. The team responds 24-hours a day, 365 days a year, but no single member is expected to respond to every event. Members are however, expected to attend regular trainings in order to develop and maintain effective skills.

Anyone that wants to help his/her community in times of an emergency should consider applying to the DCSAR team. Outdoor and basic medical experience are helpful, however, anyone over 18 years of age that is reasonably physically fit and has a positive attitude will be considered for inclusion to the team. Top-notch training is provided to ensure all members are safe and capable.

Interested applicants can obtain applications at and must be submitted by July 28.
