Wooden boats were being docked Thursday afternoon in preparation for the South Tahoe Wooden Boat Classic, which takes place today and Saturday.
This year marks the sixth year the Antique and Classic Boat Society has put on the show. The South Tahoe Wooden Boat Classic brings antique- and classic-boat owners and enthusiasts together to share information, experiences and ideas, and to enjoy music, wine food and vendors.
Antique and Classic Boat Society member Jane Bane was helping boats find their spot Thursday.
"They're all real old and classy," she said. "It's so pretty when the boats are here."
Bane said about 76 mahogany boats were expected to turn out for this year's event. A few were covered at the docks Thursday amid heavy rain, while others were still arriving.
Sacramento resident Doug Reed, who brought his boat, the Sea-Jul, said he has been coming to the show since the mid-1990s, largely because of the atmosphere.
"This show is comfortable, fun and very social," he said. "You get to go to parties and hang out with people who like the same things."
The show also features an awards banquet on Sunday. Bane said many of the boat owners who participate in the show are there to have fun and the judging isn't very strict.
"If you judge too strictly, it's not as fun," she said.
Despite Thursday's downpour, Bane said she wasn't worried about the rainfall.
"We'll have fun anyway," she said. "We do it because we love boats and the attitudes of the people here."
