Church welcomes new senior pastor
May 18, 2012
Pastor Curt Lueck and his wife Sharon’s prayers were answered a month ago when they received news that he had been chosen as the new senior pastor for Cornerstone Christian Fellowship in Gardnerville.
Lueck, 59, was installed at the May 6 service with the blessing of founding pastor Ron Mogab, who retired after 10 years at the helm.
“I want to continue the quality leadership Pastor Ron started and see what the Lord does with that,” Lueck said. “This is a great church. They were really warm and welcoming to us. They seemed to be excited to have us here.”
Lueck has served as a pastor in the Pacific Northwest for 20 years, and wanted to move to Minden to be near his parents.
“We’ve been praying for the last year and a half for something to open up in town,” Lueck said. “We didn’t want to just come down out of convenience. We wanted to be sure this is where the Lord wanted us.”
Lueck graduated from San Jose Bible College in 1979, and has served as associate pastor in San Francisco and San Jose, as well as doing mission work in Japan for three years.
“What I enjoy the most is helping people achieve their fullest potential in Christ. When I see people grow in their faith it’s really encouraging,” he said. “I also enjoy training and equipping people to serve. I think by just attending church people are missing out on a large part of walking with the Lord. There is a joy in serving God and serving others.”
Lueck’s future plans for the church include establishing a midweek service or home groups as well as restarting the youth ministry.
“The two things I’ll focus on first is to continue offering quality worship and preaching the word on Sunday,” he said. “My desire is not to gather a crowd, but to invite the spirit of the Lord, so it’s God who’s drawing them in.”
Stenciled on the window of Cornerstone Christian Fellowship are the words, “A place for everyone,” which Lueck firmly believes in.
“If you come, you’ll find a place here. You’ll be welcomed. It’s come as you are,” he said. “We want to create a relaxed atmosphere, not a religious atmosphere. We don’t offer just religion, but a relationship with Jesus.”
Cornerstone Christian Fellowship is a Foursquare Pentecostal church that meets 10 a.m. Sundays at 1415 Industrial Way, Suite J. The phone number is 783-1444.
