CHP aircraft patrol catches 19

A dozen citations were issued on Highway 395 north of Tom's Place in Mono County on Sunday.
The California Highway Patrol's Bridgeport Command conducted an aircraft speed enforcement detail with the help of the CHP's Inland Division Air Operations Unit out of Apple Valley, Calif.
During 2 ½ hours, the aircraft spotted 19 vehicles travelling faster than the 65 mph speed limit.
Those vehicles traveling 80-84 mph were cited for speeding. Vehicles traveling 75-79 mph were stopped and warned.
"Traveling at the speeds these drivers were cited for greatly increases the likelihood of an injury collision," Bridgeport Commander Lt. R.D. Cohan said. "Ground-air medical transportation to the nearest trauma center, located in Reno, takes hours. This fact demonstrates the need for CHP officers to utilize a variety of tools to apprehend traffic violators and take appropriate enforcement action."
