Carson Valley nonprofits participate in Nevada’s Big Give
April 16, 2013
On April 25, four Carson Valley nonprofit organizations will participate in the second annual Nevada’s Big Give event, an online fundraising day to benefit Nevada nonprofits.
After more than $400,000 was raised in the first year of the event, the goal this year is to raise double that in one 24-hour period for nonprofits across the state by encouraging Nevadans to give where they live.
“We were very pleased with the results of our last giving day, but our goal is to surpass those results,” said Stacey Wedding, board member of NevadaGIVES and chairwoman of Nevada’s Big Give. “Now that the campaign is more established in its second year, we anticipate more participation from both nonprofits and donors.”
From 12 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. on April 25, donations to nonprofit organizations throughout Nevada will be processed through the Razoo Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that offers an online platform for nonprofit fundraising. Each nonprofit has a fundraising page that can be accessed through Razoo.com, or through the organizations’ website and Facebook pages.
The four Carson Valley nonprofit organizations that will participate in the 2013 Nevada’s Big Give are: Between Horses and Humans, Carson Valley Trails Association, Douglas County Public Library Foundation, and Friends of the Dangberg Home Ranch.
The mission of Between Horses and Humans is, “providing children a place to learn leadership and life skills through horsemanship.”
The organization pairs able-bodied children who have personal and social issues with equine partners. Through interaction with the horses, the children learn leadership and communication skills, trust and patience, and how to move beyond anger, timidity and fear. The program offered by Between Horses and Humans helps children develop positive attitudes and embrace life with more confidence.
The Carson Valley Trails Association is a nonprofit, volunteer-based organization working with partners to provide access to public lands through a recreational trail system for present and future generations to enjoy.
Big Give donations to the Carson Valley Trails Association will be used to fund trail construction, trailhead improvements and signage amenities for the Clear Creek Trail and the loop trail on the east side of the Carson Valley.
The Douglas County Public Library Foundation assists the library in its mission to provide the citizens of Douglas County timely and wide-ranging library materials, services and programs.
The Foundation provides financial assistance to the library by funding programs and capital projects which would otherwise be impossible in these days of municipal budgetary constraints.
Big Give donations to the Douglas County Public Library Foundation will be used to fund two current projects: Pine Nut Room renovation at the Minden library, to include improved lighting, shelving, furnishings and a large viewing monitor for small group use, and a technology toolkit, including various mobile devices, to provide library staff with resources for teaching the public about the library’s expanding digital services.
The Friends of Dangberg Home Ranch is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and operation of the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park in Minden.
Programs include arts and culture events, guided history tours, free educational field trips for local schools, a free speaker series and special exhibits. Big Give donations to the organization will be prioritized to fund the purchase of a portable outdoor performance stage.
