Big Mama’s rolls into Lampe Park
May 10, 2014
This year's Big Mama's Show & Shine is off to a promising start, according to promoter Mike Schiller as the show has more pre-registered vehicles than ever before.
Big Mama's Show & Shine is 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday in Lampe Park.
"This is the 14th show, and we are looking for newer vehicles as well as the classics and street rods," Schiller said. "This has turned out to be quite a social event as it is mostly local people who participate."
Registration is being accepted until 10 a.m. Saturday. Cost is $55.
The show benefits the Meals on Wheels program which delivers meals to the elderly. Last year the show raised enough money to serve 6,300 meals to people in need.
"We are raising the bar this year as the auto makers are back on track with muscle cars. We would like to invite you to bring your late model vehicles as all the young kids love checking out all the cool vehicles," Schiller said. "In fact, the children's choice award went to a newer vehicle the last two years. There are some really cool modified vehicles in this Valley and this is a great place to show what you have."
Many older vehicles, street rods as well as a few rat rods have entered the show this year.
The Douglas County Senior Center will be serving burgers and hot dogs as well as root beer floats with a souvenir mug. The 20/30 club will donate proceeds from their beer wagon, too.
There will be a tug-of-war between the police and the fire department at 12:30 p.m., a raffle, bounce house and food vendors. Raffle prizes include stays at Eldorado Casino, Mont Bleu, Atlantis and Tahoe Ridge, spa passes from David Walley's, sight seeing cruises, golf packages and more.
"This could be the last year it's at Lampe Park as the new center is looking promising as a new venue. That makes the 14th year especially memorable for photo ops," Schiller said. "If you are trying to sell a vehicle, please join the event and enter the show as parking is limited in the parking lot, and we have a lot of handicapped people who need to park in the main parking area."
First and second place trophies will be awarded in all categories, plus a best of show. Judging in the following five areas will be: interior, paint, chrome, engine and trunk.
New this year are the people's choice and kid's choice awards which allow the public to vote for their favorite vehicles. All non-participant attendees are encouraged to stop by the information booth from 10-11:30 a.m. to pick up a ballot. All ballots must be returned by noon to be considered valid.
