Aircraft incident in Afghanistan results in no Nevada Guard injuries
August 28, 2012
A Nevada Guard CH-47 Chinook helicopter was involved in a non-hostile incident today in Afghanistan at about 7 a.m. local. The aircraft, assigned to the 1/189th Aviation based in Stead, Nev., was attempting to land in the Regional Command-East section of Afghanistan when the incident occurred. There were no significant injuries and all Guardsmen have returned to duty.
The crew consisted of four Nevada Guard soldiers and one Montana Army National Guard soldier. The 1/189th arrived in Afghanistan in April and is expected to return home in winter of 2013. The unit currently has six Chinooks assigned.
The cause of the incident and possible damage to the aircraft is still under investigation.
