Abandoned suitcase prompts highway closure
January 7, 2013
An abandoned suitcase lying on the ground next to the Minden McDonald’s on Sunday night prompted the restaurant’s evacuation and the closure of Highway 395.
The report of a suspicious package came in at about 9:10 p.m. Deputies evacuated the restaurant and closed the highway at the intersection with 88 and at Lucerne Street.
The item was a black soft-sided roller luggage lying flat on the ground near the west side trash can.
Members of the Tahoe Douglas Bomb Squad arrived and X-rayed the suitcase. The X-ray didn’t show any signs of improvised explosives and the suitcase was taken into custody.
The highway was reopened and employees were allowed back in after the incident.
