Douglas County is no longer the sickest in Nevada, that distinction belongs to Elko County. It’s not that we’re getting better, Elko is just way worse, according to the Division of Public and Behavioral Health weekly influenza report issued Thursday. Elko’s influenza like activity level is up to 15.3 percent, compared to Douglas County’s 14.5 percent. It’s reported that there were 27 cases in the second week, up from 12 last week.
We got a little surprise precipitation on Thursday, and I do mean little. Heavenly’s claiming an inch of new snow. It’s been so bad, I’m willing to give it to them. I believe I counted nine flakes on my way home last night. It looks like last night’s snow was enough to close Monitor Pass again. At least all the indicators agree this time.
There won’t be any surprise snow today under mostly sunny skies, with a high temperature of 50 degrees. The west slope of the Sierra is under a red flag warning for critical fire danger through 10 a.m.
