Ever since her mom brought home some upholstered furniture Ellen’s Interiors owner Ellen Bartolomucci said she has been inspired by the transformation and beauty the upholstery had on the furniture and thus influenced her career in interior design. She had some training with small companies but wanted to do more.
“I realized that I needed to have more formal training so I went to Stratford Institute,” She said. “And then ended up where I am now.”
Ellen’s Interiors has been in business for going on 18 years. Bartolomucci said she began her business out of her three-car garage with two 12-foot tables and industrial material that took up most of the space. Eventually the business grew and she relocated to a building by Tires Plus in Gardnerville. It was there for two years and then relocated again to its current location on High School Street.
“We love being in the middle of town, because it enables us to participate in the town’s activities, such as the wine walk,” said Bartolomucci. “Customers we have worked with in the past that know of both shops, seem to like the new location more, because they say it is like going into a house; its more cozy.”
The new building has two show rooms, a kitchen, office and a workroom with double doors which makes for easier transport of large projects.
“With this place, we’re able to have more of a variety of display, items and show rooms,” said Bartolomucci. “It’s bigger and there’s a lot more natural light.”
Manager Angela Barrett said the new location has been working out great for business and they love it.
“All of the people who came into our old shop come here now and they say they love the location and we have a lot more walk-ins,” she said.
Ellen’s Interiors make custom draperies, valances and slip covers. They do upholstery and bedding including cushions, pillows, and bench seats. They also sell area rugs, Hunter Douglas products including window shades and have a library of fabric books.
“What I like best is being able to transform flat fabric into something fabulous,” said Barrett. “I like the awesome designs we are able to make for these people and how happy customers are when they have their finished product.”
Bartolomucci and Barrett said they look forward to seeing more clients and watching their business grow.
“The joy in seeing the customers’ faces, knowing the wow factor is there, is what make it all worthwhile,” said Bartolomucci. “We will not be satisfied until the customer is satisfied.”
