In October, the Carson Valley Trails Association launched the “Love Your Trails” fundraising effort to match a $25,000 challenge grant received from the Bingham Charitable Fund at the Community Foundation of Western Nevada. The grant requires CVTA to raise an additional $25,000 by March 31, 2014. In addition to the “Love Your Trails” fundraiser, cash donations and new or renewal CVTA memberships received before March 31, 2014, will count toward the match. Donations can be made online at www.carsonvalleytrails.org or by mailing a check to CVTA, P.O. Box 222, Minden NV 89423.
In 2012, CVTA and community volunteers completed 16 miles of the nonmotorized Genoa Trail System in the west valley foothills overlooking the Genoa area. The Genoa Trail System project was funded by a $396,378 Question 1 grant from the Nevada Division of State Lands. Since the grand opening in 2012, this trail has attracted hikers, runners, mountain bikers and equestrians. In addition, it was the site of the inaugural Genoa Peak Mad-a-thon in August of 2013.
CVTA and community volunteers recently completed construction of 10.5 miles of trail in the Jacks Valley/Clear Creek area. This trail is expected to open in the spring of 2014. Recently, the Bureau of Land Management approved a CVTA proposal to construct two nonmotorized loop trails on the east side of the Carson Valley – the four-mile Piñon Loop and the six-mile Juniper Loop. Construction of the Piñon Loop is expected to begin in the fall of 2014. These two trails will be planned, funded and constructed by CVTA.
