The R-C Morning Report for Oct. 18

We’ll find out soon whether Genoa resident Phil Ritger will be Genoa town manager. He has 24 hours to respond to an offer from the town board for $49,461, which will go up to $52,000 in six months if he can find the difference in savings or additional revenues. Town board members offered him the job Thursday night.

The U.S. Forest Service is opening some of its Lake Tahoe recreational areas, focusing on those that would normally be open after the end of October. Nevada Beach, which usually closes in mid-October will stay that way. Camping at Zephyr Cove Campground will remain open. There’s a list I’ll publish in a bit.

Backyard burning season opens on Saturday, and so far it looks like it will be a beautiful day to begin. But don’t take my word for it, call the hotline number before you burn to make sure it’s OK.

Today’s forecast calls for sunny skies and a high of 69 degrees. The wind will pick up out of the east at 5 mph this afternoon. Expect the low on Saturday morning to hit 26 degrees.
