Carson City manager resigns effective Dec. 19

City Manager Larry Werner resigned effective Dec. 19 in a letter this week to Carson City Mayor Robert Crowell, voicing regret but saying that retirement and travel beckon.

Werner, 65, a Minden resident, has led Carson City’s government departments and staff since Feb. 7, 2008.

Werner served as Douglas County Public Works Director from Sept. 21, 1992, to May 7, 1993.

In his disclosure statement filed early this year, Werner listed his compensation as $140,169. With additional benefits, he said Tuesday, it was nearly $200,000 in value.

Werner was born in Smith, where he lived on a ranch until age 14. Then his family moved to Carson City where he attended junior high and high school.

He graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1971 with a degree in civil engineering. He was assistant city manager for the city of Puyallup, Wash., prior to the Douglas County job. He was public works director in Carson from August 1978 to May 1984.
