Spring Peak fire threatens historic Bodie

A fire set by lightning is threatening the historic mining site of Aurora and has prompted the evacuation of two working mines in the area.

The 12,600-acre Spring Peak fire was first reported on Sunday morning and is believed to have started from a lightning strike on Saturday.

While no homes are threatened, Bodie State Historical Park is about four miles away across the Calfornia state line. The fire is reported to be threatening high tension powerlines that could affect services outside the area.
