Douglas County’s flu vaccine program is going mobile.
On Sept. 26, flu shots at $25 per person will be available 8 a.m.-noon at the Topaz Ranch Estates Community Center on Carter Drive.
The TRE flu clinic is sponsored by Douglas County and Carson City Health and Human Services.
Carson City Health can bill the individual’s insurance company.
“If someone is unable to afford the vaccination, they can receive a free shot,” said East Fork Deputy Fire Chief David Fogerson. “We will not turn anyone away.”
Fogerson said the annual drive through flu clinic, set for Oct. 12 at Douglas High School, provides free vaccinations.
“In past years, we provided a bus to transport TRE residents to the flu clinic at DHS, but did not receive great results, so we are trying to reach out to them instead,” Fogerson said.
The TRE clinic is open to all.
“The annual flu clinic that we hold, right now planned for Oct. 12 at Douglas High School, provides free flu shots as it tests our community’s ability to deliver mass inoculations in the event of a public health emergency,” Fogerson said.
“We use that event to prove that we can administer vaccinations to a large number of people using community volunteers, emergency management, nurses, Community Emergency Response Team, and the Carson City Health and Human Services Department,” he said.
