Tahoe bear gets free ride to wilderness

A 3-year-old male black bear captured in Glenbrook took a ride through Carson Valley on his way to the Sweetwater Mountains on Wednesday.

The bear, captured by Nevada Division of Wildlife Biologist Carl Lackey, had been captured and released as a yearling.

Lackey said the Lake Tahoe neighborhood had some nuisance bear complaints, but that he didn’t have any evidence the bear he had in the trap was one of the perpetrators.

“They’ve got a lot of bears up at Tahoe,” he said.

The Sweetwater Mountains are the next chain east of the Pine Nut Mountains on the other side of Antelope Valley.

Lackey said he hasn’t received too many bear complaints in Douglas County so far this year. He said that there is still plenty of habitat for bears in the Pine Nuts despite the fire.
