Wild horse meeting Wednesday in Fish Springs

A workshop to discuss suggestions on how to manage a band of wild horses living in Fish Springs has been set for 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, at the Fish Springs Volunteer Fire Station by the Bureau of Land Management’s Carson City District Sierra Front Field Office. Federal officials say the horses are 10 miles outside the Pine Nut Herd Management Area south of Carson City, and are affecting private property.

“The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the alternatives identified in the June meeting we held, and which will offer the best management options,” said Leon Thomas, Sierra Front field manager. “In order to have a well-rounded discussion, we are hoping all interested people will attend.”

About 50 people attended a previous meeting in Carson City to discuss the horses

The Fish Springs Volunteer Fire Station is located at 2149 Fish Springs Road. Because of limited accommodations at the fire station, bringing a chair is suggested.
