A platoon of volunteers received their marching orders and went to work Wednesday morning making the final preparations for the Carson Valley United Methodist Church rummage sale.
The annual shopping event runs 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
“We have a great variety of good, quality stuff, and everything works. We test it out when we get it,” said co-chairwoman Sharon Calvert. “We have a professional screen printer that’s one of our most expensive things. It’s still in the box.”
Church members have spent the last two weeks organizing more than a dozen departments including household goods, crafts, books, seasonal items, clothes, jewelry, electronics, furniture, tools and sporting goods.
“What we don’t sell goes to Helping Hands Thrift Store,” Calvert said.
Among the computers, stereos, VCRs and home printers in the electronics department, were two Konica/Minolta 2006 office printers.
“They work beautifully,” office manager Len Frueh said. “For somebody with high demand office printing these are great.”
In the clothing department Sylvia Terzich wished she had more space for the many belts, shirts, hats, pants, shoes and coats that had been donated to the sale.
“The T-shirts alone are probably 200,” she laughed. “If we could add another 20 feet to the building it would help.”
On a “boutique” rack hung leather coats, men’s suits, evening wear, fur coats and a wedding gown.
“We have an assortment that anyone would find in their own closet,” Terzich said. “We have a whole shoe store in here.”
In addition to the material goods, the church will also offer a snack bar and bake sale.
The church is located at 1375 Centerville Lane in Gardnerville.
