Crews responding to wildland fire on Kingsbury grade

Fire crews are responding to a three-acre wildland fire approximately one mile from the top of Kingsbury Grade reported at 3 p.m.

The fire is growing as high winds from the south pushed the fire northeast along the top of the mountain.

While still well away from Genoa, firefighters are concerned that Nevada’s oldest town could eventually be in the path of the blaze.

Forest Service personnel on scene reported the fire was buring in heavy vegetation.

A red flag warning for critical fire danger is in effect for Western Nevada.

Crews from East Fork, the U.S. Forest Service and the Nevada Department of Forestry were responding to the blaze.

Nevada Highway Patrol is working on closing Kingsbury Grade.

Units are staging at the bottom of the grade. Motorists are warned to look out for fire equipment along Foothill Road.
