The RC Morning Report for April 9

Enrollment slide continues

School District officials are projecting a 72-student decrease in enrollment next year, with the student population dropping to 6,052. Douglas County School Board trustees will discuss their tentative budget at a meeting in Zephyr Cove 3:30 p.m. State law requires that all local governments in Nevada, including the school districts file a balanced tentative budget by April 15.

County budget hearings

Douglas County is included under the category of all local governments and will start two days of budget hearings today at 5 p.m. Douglas has got a lot of budgets to get through and is scheduled to start with the general fund this evening. The hearings continue at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Visioning continues

Three days of visioning sessions continues noon today at the CVIC Hall in Minden. The sessions wrap up with a public presentation 3:30-6 p.m. to discuss the future of Douglas County’s downtowns.

Sunny and cool today

It will be sunny and brisk this morning, with a high approaching 56 degrees and a northeast wind blowing 10-15 mph, and gusting as fast as 25 mph. My rain gauge showed .08 inches of rain this morning. The good news is that it wasn’t quite freezing outside, so the apple crop is safe for the time being.
