Alex Appel crowned Mr. DHS

It was standing room only in the Douglas commons Friday night as 475 spectators watched Alex Appel crowned Mr. DHS. “‘I won, really?’ was my first thought,” Alex said. “I wasn’t expecting to win. It was a surprise. When you’re going up against 10 other people in a competition you entered not intending to win, and where what’s being judged is unknown, you’re not expecting to win.” The 17-year-old said he entered the competition with the sole purpose of having a story to tell later on in life. “I thought it would be something fun.
