256 attend job fair

More than 250 people showed up at the Carson Valley Career Job Opportunity Fair taking advantage of the 33 employers there looking for workers.
Carson Valley Chamber Executive Director Bill Chernock said the number through the door was 256, though there may have been a few more.
He said the turnout dropped off after 5 p.m.
“More so than the past couple of ones we’ve done,” he said.
The chamber is one of four sponsors of the job fair, in addition to Douglas County Workforce Development, the Business Council of Douglas County and Minden-Tahoe Airport.
“One of our main objectives is work force development,” he said. “We want to put people who want to work back in that force to where they’re earning and spending money at other businesses.”
Danielle Hull of Continuum Packing Solutions said her company is growing and looking to fill all sorts of positions.
Founded three years ago, the company manufactures recyclable packaging for all sorts of drinks.
Kelly Services’ Joanna Melara said the staffing agency is seeing an increase in job placements.
Douglas Student Jobs Manager Sergio E. Arteaga said he started working for Western Nevada College as a student on campus.
“We offer students jobs on campus,” he said.
