A workshop on water and sewer rate increases is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Johnson Lane Volunteer Fire Department on Stephanie Way. County commissioners said at their May 1 meeting that the new rates need to be approved by July 1, so I suspect a special 4:30 p.m. meeting set for June 25 may be to do just that.
While the races for sheriff in Douglas, Carson and a little less in Washoe were landslides, in Lyon County there were only 203 votes between winner Al McNeil and second place Albert Torres. Nevada Highway Patrol Spokesman Trooper Chuck Allen was the top candidate in Washoe County by a pretty good margin. All those races will be back in November.
A red flag warning for extreme fire danger kicks in 1-9 p.m. today as a low pressure system swirls off the California coast, bringing gusty winds and low humidity to Western Nevada. This looks like a two-day event continuing on Thursday.
Lightning lit up the Pine Nuts last night, so that may set a fire or two on the mountain when the winds pick up. On Tuesday five people were arrested for setting off fireworks in Spanish Springs. Don’t do that.
Today’s weather will be sunny with the west wind increasing to 15-20 mph, gusting to 30 mph. Expect a blustery evening before the wind dies down.
