Frels receives excellence award

Carson Valley Visitors Authority Executive Director AJ Frels received the Nevada excellence in grants award from the Nevada Commission on Tourism during the Rural Roundup in Ely.

Frels writes all the applications for state-administered tourism grants for his agency.

This past year, the Carson Valley Visitors Authority received more than $53,000 in funding from commission’s Marketing Grant Program, and recently was awarded $10,000 from commission’s Projects Relating to Tourism Grant Program for a project to replace Carson Valley’s gateway signs to reflect the area’s new brand.

Quilt House celebrates 15 years

The Quilt House is celebrating its 15th anniversary in Gardnerville with events throughout the month of May.

The month will feature sales, daily demos, gifts with purchase and special pricing on Bernina sewing machines, Koala sewing cabinets and Heavenly sewing chairs. There will be an end of the month drawing for several gift baskets and a Bernina sewing machine.

Gardnerville company changes name

Gardnerville resident Chris Patton, who formerly operated Gardnerville Spa & Pool and has served Carson Valley and surrounding areas for the last 17 years, has changed his business name to Patton Spa & Pool. Patton continues to provide service and repairs of spas and pools. He and his family will be located from a home office and also provide free delivery of chemicals and other spa and pool items.

Scarf class at Genoa Lakes

Genoa artist Sonny Imes is teaching a class at Genoa Lakes starting 1 p.m. May 21. Spots in the class where students will finish two scarves embellished with beads and charms are $35.

“I was in Fort Lauderdale and some people were wearing these types of accessories and I said to my sister ‘I can make those,’” she said. “So I got to work when I came home and ordered what I thought I would need. Then I sold all of the scarves I made.”

The class will be held where Antoci’s Restaurant was located in the sunroom. Imes said the scarfs sell for $35 each.
