Warrant issued in armed Walmart raid
December 1, 2016
A nationwide, no-bail warrant has been issued for the arrest of a Reno man who pulled a knife on a Gardnerville Walmart security officer.
Tuesday is the second time Dylan Mitts, 24, has failed to appear for a sentencing on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon.
The victim in the case was in court to testify.
Mitts' attorney Derrick Lopez said he'd heard from his client two weeks ago when he called to say he didn't have transportation to get tested. He missed a second drug test this week.
Mitts faces 1-6 years in prison, or he could receive probation.
Mitts was one of three people arrested at gunpoint after the Oct. 29, 2015, theft.
In an unrelated case, one of three men involved in an Oct. 23, 2015 Walmart theft was ordered to spend 364 days in jail after he withdrew from the Drug Court program.
Steven Michael Williams, 20, received credit for 81 days he has already served in jail.
District Judge Tod Young pointed out that a Nov. 14 drug test revealed Williams was positive for marijuana, methamphetamine and heroin.
"You're going to kill yourself," Young said. "You're going to stop your heart. I hope I'm wrong. I would love for you to come back here with a job and a life and prove me wrong."
